Roof insulation Ceiling insulation

7y Smart Roofing can supply and install roof and ceiling insulation.

What type of insulation do need?

It can be very confusing when investigating insulation types, with all the different materials available.
There are also many different ratings. If you are replacing your existing roof, we would recommend using a (55mm anticon blanket insulation). The blanket is made of fibreglass and has a silver foil that is glued to one side on the blanket. When the old roof is removed, the blanket then gets laid out over the top of the existing timber roof battens. When the new roof is installed, the blanket then becomes sandwiched between the new tin and the existing roof battens. It does not sit on the ceiling.

What are the benifits of using anticon blanket instead of ceiling insulation?

  1. The heat is deflected at the roof level instead of the ceiling level, leaving the roof cavity alot cooler.

  2. The insulation can not be moved or disturbed, because it is locked in between the new tin and the timber battens.

  3. Fibreglass fibres cannot escape into the ceiling cavity because they are contained inside the silver foil. This
keeps your ceiling cavity free from fibres.

  4. The silver foil acts as an anti-condensation barrier that helps to keep moisture levels low.

  5. There are other types of insulation that can be fitted directly under the roof sheets but we feel that the (anticon blanket) is the best value for money.

  6. Now that you have a cooler fibre free ceiling cavity, it becomes much more attractive for tradesman and other people who need to access the roof cavity for maintenance etc. If an electrician needs to work around ceiling batts, they are very likely to charge you more, as opposed to working in your roof cavity if the insulation is above them.

In this picture you can see the blanket insulation being rolled out . This will then be placed in position on top of the roof battens.

The roll you see, is the....
Bradford's 55mm Ant icon blanket.

This has a standard rating of 1.5

The insulation is being tucked under the roof sheeting. The silver foil is on the under side of the blanket. This stops the insulation from falling apart and also stops any fibres from falling into the roof cavity and landing on the back of the ceiling lining.

The roof sheets are now ready to be screwed off. The screws will penetrate through the sheets, then through the insulation and then into the timber battens.
The insulation becomes compressed.
